In order to run the BuckleMeUp Android app, your device will need both of the following:
- Android 4.4.2 or higher (KitKat or Lollipop, with the exception of Marshmallow 6.0.0)*
- Bluetooth 4.0
*IMPORTANT- Please be advised that BuckleMeUp’s connectivity and app are affected by a known Bluetooth issue with devices using Android 6.0.X (Marshmallow). Connectivity issues are confirmed to be fixed in Android 6.0.1 and above for Nexus devices.
If your device is not on this list but uses Android 4.4 and Bluetooth 4.0, there is a good chance BuckleMeUp will work fine, but we are not able to offer the same level of support in troubleshooting scenarios.
What Android devices will not work with BuckleMeUp?
Any devices that do not have Bluetooth 4.0 or BLE, will not work. This is due to the fact that these handsets do not have the hardware to communicate with our BuckleMeUp hardware or companion app.
Where do I download the app to use with BuckleMeUp?
To download the free BuckleMeUp app, visit either the App Store or Google Play by simply clicking either of the logos below. Once you have downloaded the app and installed it on your smartphone you’re ready to start.

Technology & Technical
BuckleMeUp uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to pair the seatbelt cartridge/s to your smartphone. While Bluetooth technology is a wireless technology, the BuckleMeUp Bluetooth range is up to 30m. Bluetooth is most effective at the 10m range depending on the environment. Learn more about Bluetooth
Simply download the app from either the App Store or Google Play. Once downloaded press the BuckleMeUp app icon and begin. Go to the Home page of the BuckleMeUp app and click “Set Up” then click “Start Scan” then click “Connect“. Now click on “done” to Select a Device. Go to the Passengers icon to view status of seatbelt(s).

How do I get the BuckleMeUp cartridge/s off to transfer to our new car?
As the double-sided tape we supply is very strong, you will need to purchase new BuckleMeUp cartridge/s as they may be damaged if removed from your current seatbelt. Visit our e-store to purchase more.
What if more than two seatbelt cartridges are required? Where can I buy them?

What if I need to reposition the BuckleMeUp seatbelt cartridge?
It is advisable to carefully position the BuckleMeUp cartridge/s when installing. (Refer to the diagram). If they do need to be repositioned, a flat screwdriver can be used to remove the tape and cartridge/s. An alcohol-based cleaning agent may be used to remove any excess tape residue. New double-sided tape will need to be applied to the BuckleMeUp cartridge/s.
I have three children and often have up to five children in my car. Is the seatbelt cartridge transferable from one car to another?
Each child travelling in your car would need a seatbelt BuckleMeUp cartridge affixed to their individual seatbelt. Our system works for up to 5 rear seats within one vehicle. Once the BuckleMeUp cartridge is affixed it cannot be transferred due to the heavy-duty double-sided tape we supply to affix the cartridges to the rear seatbelts. New cartridges would need to be purchased at our e-store.
Can I use the device on the seatbelt that is used to buckle in my child car seat or baby capsule?
No. This device is not intended for forward and rear-facing capsules or any other restraint permanently affixed to the car by the adult (lap-sash) seatbelt. It is ONLY to be used for passengers who are freely seated and using the lap-sash seatbelt and for children who are in a booster seat. How will I know if one belt is not buckled at the beginning of a journey?
The BuckleMeUp app will visually and audibly alert you if any seatbelts are not engaged. See our ‘Discover‘ section of our website.
What if two or more seatbelts become unbuckled at the same time?
The BuckleMeUp app will visually and audibly alert you to tell you that multiple passengers are unbuckled (up to 5 seatbelts).
My device is not working or I am having difficulties installing it, what do I do?
Do I need to turn on the seatbelt cartridges each time?
No, once you initially turn on the BuckleMeUp cartridge/s and stick it to the seatbelt buckle it remains engaged and active.
How long do the seatbelt cartridge batteries last before they need to be replaced?
The battery in the seatbelt cartridge is not rechargeable and has been designed to last up to approximately 2 years of average driving time of approximately 20,000 kilometres per year (ABS, 2012).
How will I know if the seatbelt cartridges are running low in charge?
A battery monitoring system is built into the BuckleMeUp app to track the life of each buckle unit. This monitor will alert the user that they should replace a seatbelt cartridge/s via the BuckleMeUp app. The battery level will be shown as a percentage under each passenger icon on your smartphone screen via the BuckleMeUp app. When the battery level decreases under 10%, the battery level caption changes to ‘Low Battery’ and a warning window is shown. You will be given the option to reorder a new cartridge via our e-store.
Does the BuckleMeUp App alert still work if I am on the phone, my phone is on silent, locked or at low volume?
Yes the BuckleMeUp App will still alert you when you are on the phone, your phone is on silent or at low volume.
